Contests, Awards, and Grants

GFWC, GFWC of Massachusetts, and GFWC of Massachusetts, Junior Membership sponsor several awards, contests, and grants each year. Some are for individual club members and others are for clubs or states.

Click here for an introduction to the GFWC Awards, Contests, and Grants in the 2012-2014 GFWC Club Manual.

GFWC Awards include awards for outstanding achievement in the Community Service Programs, Special Projects, and the GFWC Advancement Areas.

GFWC of Massachusetts, Junior Membership Awards and Recognitions include all those that are awarded at our Annual Conference
with the exception of the Arts and Photography Contest which are presented by GFWC of Massachusetts at the April Club Institute.

The GFWC Jennie Award honors one clubwoman from each GFWC Region for outstanding commitment to club, community, and family.

The GFWC Media Campaign Contests recognize significant public relations accomplishments through the use of social media, video, and/or other new media efforts, in addition to the more traditional communications methods.

The Marilyn Perry Leadership Award focuses on clubwomen who take their leadership skills beyond their club and use those skills in the community-at-large. It is an award recognizing leadership in general – not just within a club or GFWC.

The
Martha Michaelwich Clubwoman of the Year Award
goes to the clubwoman who has gone above the call of duty for her club.

GFWC’s Community Improvement Program Award (formerly the Community Improvement Contest) aims to enhance the lives of GFWC’s neighbors around the world by meeting community specific needs, and elevating our clubs’ status within those communities.  The Community Improvement Program Award provides a vision for the future of the relationships between clubs and their communities.

The GFWC Photography Contests encourage our members’ artistic expression, and recognize and support members’ achievements in photography. These contests are individual contests.  GFWC offers these opportunities to participate in the Photography Contests:
  • The World in Pictures contests are judged at the state level where the first place winner in each category is submitted to GFWC.  There are the two classes, color and black and white, per category and two divisions, GFWC Member and High School Student, for each class and category.
  • Living Things
  • Scenes
  • Abstract
  • A Year in Pictures (also known as the GFWC Calendar Contest) is an individual contest where each club selects the best picture from their club to be sent on to GFWC.
  • The GFWC "Volunteers in Action" Photography Contest.
The GFWC Writing Contests encourage members and children to submit their short stories and poetry.

GFWC of Massachusetts has it's own Art contest where members and the children of members can submit  their artwork to be displayed along with the photographs at the Annual Artist's Tea.  Awards for winning artwork and photographs are presented at the April Awards Day.

The GFWC Website Contest aims to challenge clubs and states to employ their websites as membership tools with organized and updated content that presents a professional and credible source of information.  Individual clubs and states can enter the GFWC website contest and an award is given at the state level for the club with the best website.

The GFWC Newsletter Contest encourages clubs and state federations to establish a strong newsletter program aimed at increasing awareness about ongoing projects, programs, events, and issues that affect GFWC members, clubs, and communities.  An award is given on the state level to the club with the best newsletter.  Any club and the state can also enter the GFWC newsletter contest.

The GFWC of Massachusetts Publicity Book Contest encourages clubs to keep a record of the many ways in which they have reached the public throughout the year.

Several Grants and other funding resources are available from GFWC and our partners for specific programs and projects.
