For
2010
– 2012 GFWC’s Conservation Community Service
Program is broken down into two functions – Collaboration
and Partnership.
This is a change from
the previous titles of Beautification and Resource
Conservation. I attempt to explain these new titles on the
next page. Just know that whatever activities you
do to make your town environment cleaner and healthier are greatly
appreciated by this humble Conservation Chairman!
CONSERVATION
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
Through
the conservation program GFWC encourages federation members to gain an
understanding and appreciation of the environment and the
world’s resources.
The two new emphasis
areas are Collaboration and Partnership:
COLLABORATION
- Activities that involve enhancing the local community.
- Beautify
your community- implement beautification projects in your
town. Plant, clean…
- Educate
members and community - Invite speakers to your meetings, environmental
scientists, educators or naturalists and consider inviting community
members to attend.
- Reach out to
public officials – help with town recycling drives
or Earth Day activities, learn town environmental policies and share
with members.
- Work with
other local groups – schools, scouts,
churches. Beautification, recycling
projects…
PARTNERSHIP
- Getting involved with specific national or international
organizations which have materials, speakers, and kits designed for
GFWC clubs. These are:
- The Humane
Society of the United
States www.HumaneSociety.org
- Kind News -
Clubs are encouraged to provide this publication to schools in their
communities through the “Adopt-a-Classroom” program.
