GFWC  LEADS  2012

Leadership Education and Development Seminar

  • involves GFWC members at the grassroots level who have the potential and desire to assume GFWC leadership positions beyond the club level;
  • is a one day seminar held annually the day before GFWC International Convention convenes: and
  • one attendee from each state federation is eligible to participate.  Since LEADS began in 2002, nine GFWC of Massachusetts clubwomen have attended.

GFWC LEADS

is a full day of activities  which may include  presentations by outside speakers, including demonstrations, on conflict resolution, mediation,  public speaking, time management, parliamentary procedure and public relations; discussion of GFWC polices and procedures; explanation of  GFWC resources, materials and assistance available to clubs and officers; tips for pursuing GFWC leadership opportunities.
 
GFWC WILL COVER PART OF THE COST FOR LEADS ATTENDEES, INCLUDING:
  • Round-trip travel to and from the GFWC Convention city, (LEADS attendees are asked to make their own travel arrangements.)
  • One-half of room charges for two nights at the official Convention hotel,
  • Breakfast and lunch during the LEADS seminar; and
  • Discounted Convention meal charges.
  • GFWC of Massachusetts will provide the registration fee for GFWC Convention and one night additional lodging (based on double occupancy).
LEADS attendees are asked to be  responsible for a portion of their expenses as an affirmation of their personal commitment.

CRITERIA  FOR  PARTICIPATION  IN  LEADS
     
Each LEADS candidate must
  • demonstrate leadership capabilities at the club level as an active club president, officer or club project/committee chairman,
  • exhibit a commitment to Federation,
  • exhibit an understanding of the GFWC mission of community service, illustrated by  programs/projects in which she is/has been involved,
  • demonstrate leadership skills, including but not limited to the following: organized, responsible, trustworthy, enthusiastic, flexible,
  • exhibit an interest and willingness to pursue higher leadership positions in Federation,
  • agree to share information gained from participation in LEADS with others in the state (possibly by conducting or participating in a “mini-LEADS” program),
  • understand and accept potential expenses in participation,
  • Not have held elected  positions at or beyond the state level; and
Not have attended a previous LEADS seminar. (Members are eligible to attend only once.)

APPLICATIONS 
  • Application materials may be found on the GFWC website (www.GFWC.org) or accessed through the GFWC of Massachusetts website (www.GFWCMA.org).  Each candidate should submit  a completed GFWC LEADS participant application form with  two (2) letters of support  from members of an active GFWC of Massachusetts club. 
  • The applicant should also provide a brief essay  (about 500 words) explaining why she would like to attend LEADS.
  • Completed applications should be addressed to: GFWC of Massachusetts Headquarters, Attention: LEADS,  P.O Box 679,  Sudbury MA   01776-0679  and postmarked no later than February 1, 2011
SELECTION
  • The GFWC of Massachusetts  LEADS selection Committee will make the final selection of the Massachusetts representative to the LEADS program.
  • The ‘Criteria for Participation in LEADS’, as outlined above, will be used by the committee during the selection process.
